Online events registration service Eventbrite — which already counts YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim and Bebo co-founder Michael Birch among its backers — has now added Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman as an investor. Eventbrite, which raised $6.5 million in a round in November, isn’t saying how much Stoppelman is putting into the company. Stoppelman will also serve as a “strategic advisor, contributing his in-depth experience in local market development and social media.”
Yelp has event listings on its own site — but an Eventbrite spokeswoman said she wouldn’t comment on whether there were plans to bring Eventbrite’s service — which lets users both publicize events and sell tickets — to Yelp. Stoppelman is the second prominent CEO to line up behind Eventbrite in recent months; in January, Sean Moriarty, the former CEO of Ticketmaster, joined the startup’s board.
