Haven’t they read the mess newspapers are in? More money than sense?

Either way, at this rate, perhaps Russia’s growing oligarch set could be a viable strategic alternative, for hard-pressed European papers, to the reality of industry change and economic malaise.

These are ultr-rich people, they are buying these newspapers for other reasons. They can influence society, and politics. That’s what Hearst did. And others too.

Media is a loss-leader, you make it up on other things. I publish a loss-leader too, I just need to find the “other things” that make it worthwhile :)
