Mergermarket:…And an executive change at one of Pearson’s companies. Hamilton Matthews is the new CEO of the Mergermarket Group, a division of Pearson’s FT Group that provides news and data to the financial sector. Matthews was previously in charge of commercial and operational activities in the EMEA region.

The Independent: Ian Birrell is resigning as the newspaper’s deputy editor. He has worked for the Independent for 12 years and leaves as the paper is in negotiations for a sale to Alexander Lebedev. No news yet on Birrell’s next move. (Via Press Gazette.)
