The London Weekly: I Print Therefore I Am

The London Weekly masthead

The new London freesheet The London Weekly distributed its first copy today – in the wake of much skepticism over whether it really existed at all.

The new weekly is swimming against a pretty strong tide in the freesheet market. The Evening Standard may be read by 1.37 million readers on a circulation of 600,000, but 2009 otherwise saw 35 free dailies close down on the back of reduced ad spend.

Looks like The London Weekly print launch is not tied in with a refresh of content online. The most recent news in the online edition currently dates from February 3.

A London journalist, Jennifer Whitehead, was first to the post on Twitter with her picture of the masthead. The newspaper is getting distributed in central London locations alongside other freesheets.
