Another Directory Publisher Exits Bankruptcy


Big directory publisher R.H. Donnelley has emerged from bankruptcy protection, eight months after filing for Chapter 11. Lots of parallels here with rival Idearc which exited bankruptcy in early January. Like Idearc, R.H. Donnelley is taking on a new name; R.H. Donnelley is now called Dex One, while Idearc is using the moniker SuperMedia. And, like SuperMedia, the new Dex One maintains there is a future in its print business. CEO David Swanson tells Reuters that “there’s a shift to … other media — Internet, search engine, mobile or voice, but it is a slow evolutionary process. It’s not nearly as radical a change as I think many people would like to believe.”

The company is however at least making a point of trying to position itself as a “one stop shop” for local businesses who want to find “active shoppers” — online, in print, or via phone. In addition to its Dex-branded yellow and white pages, Dex One also runs and among other sites. Here’s the release
