When Facebook signed leases with Fortune Data Centers and Digital Realty Trust, it was a way to quickly ramp up computing capacity without starting from scratch. But now, the company is thinking longer term. Set to open in 2011, Facebook’s Prineville, Oregon data center broke ground this week. And in keeping with the social networking giant’s energy efficient computing philosophy, the facility will be free-cooled up to 70 percent of the year.
