There’s a lot of movement at the top of Interpublic Group’s agency holdings this week… Nick Brien, head of the ad agency holding company’s media buying hub, Mediabrands, is being named CEO of its largest agency network, the McCann Worldgroup, AdAge reports. The move follows a day after the hiring of digital ad vet Matt Freeman as CEO of Mediabrands Ventures, the media unit’s interactive and venture arm. With Brien’s move upward, Freeman will join several other Mediabrands’ execs on a committee that will run the unit, at least in the interim.
Brien was previously CEO of IPG media shop, Universal-McCann. He was named Mediabrands’ first CEO when it was formed in July 2008.
With Brien moving over to the larger role at McCann, Mediabrands will be run by a group of execs at the unit, AdAge says, citing unidentified sources. Aside from Freeman, the Mediabrands roundtable will be made up of Global CEO of Universal McCann Matt Seiler, Initiative CEO Richard Beaven, and Tara Comonte, Mediabrands’ COO/CFO.
