Carphone Warehouse: No TV Push Until Canvas Is Ready

Carphone Warehouse looks like it is putting its TV ambitions into a holding pattern until there is more movement on Project Canvas, saying it would be “foolhardy” to invest in its own TV proposition against incumbent offerings big TV operators.

The comments were made during a trading update today, when CEO Charles Dunstone said earnings are expected to be at the top end of earlier estimates. TalkTalk’s broadband subscriber base is between 4.1 and 4.2 million users, with total revenues of £446 million. The demerger of TalkTalk is still on track for March 2010. Net income from Best Buy Europe is now expected to be £40-45 million, compared to earlier guidance of £30-40 million.
