PBS is working to develop a separate news website, paidContent has learned, and it has commissioned WNET New York to build it for them. WNET will also be producing it for PBS on an ongoing basis. The site will be under PBS.org, and will combine all the news and public affairs programming from various PBS stations. It is slated to launch in May.
This comes as PBS has been trying to beef up its digital presence and creds, few steps behind its radio cousin NPR and public radio in general. PBS spokesperson confirmed the details, but refused further comment, and said they will announce details on it tomorrow.
