I missed the Palm earnings call yesterday due to some light travel, but aside from the sales figures and financial numbers there was talk about webOS. Specifically, Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein mentioned that webOS 1.3.5 is coming soon, says PreCentral. And more important than the version number is what this update will bring:
- Confirmation of more usable storage for application installation — currently, webOS limits apps to fixes space /var partition
- Better Wi-Fi and application performance — I’m happy with the Wi-Fi on my Pre, but better app performance would be welcome!
- Improved battery life — definitely something that handset owners have wanted from the beginning. I bought a higher capacity battery to help in this area.
- A faster overall experience on the Palm Pixi
While I doubt that all of the update details would be spilled in an investor Q&A session, I’d still like to see some improvements to the browser among other things. And I’m hoping that the new web-based Ares SDK attracts some major development names to the webOS platform. It’s nice to hear that Palm is addressing the application storage limit — that could dovetail very nicely with a potential surge in applications for webOS.
