Looking to carry gobs of data while mobile? LaCie’s Rikki is probably worth a look based on the price and size. The USB 2.0 drive is all of 4.3″ x 2.9″ x .5″ in size — or nearly the same size as an iPhone — and weighs a scant 158 grams, making it easy to bring along. Inside the aluminum enclosure is a 2.5″ magnetic hard drive with capacities in your choice of 250 GB, 500 GB or 640 GB. Rikki works with either Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X, but Windows users get a boost — using the included USB Boost software, folks pairing Rikki with Microsoft’s platform will see transfer speeds boosted up to 33 percent.
The Rikki is self-powered by your computer through the included USB cable and runs between $75 and $150, depending on the capacity.
