HMV Hires Amazon Exec For Continued Online Retail Push

High street music chain HMV (LSE: HMV) has a new head of online: former head of DVD buying at Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) Sarah Hughes is joining the company and will lead a 15-strong content and display team.

Before Amazon, Hughes, worked at defunct retailers MCV and DVD wholesaler Entertainment UK (via Music Week).

Although Hughes’ job title “head of online”, her past experience would suggest her role will be to lead the company’s physical sales of CDs, DVDs and books from — a separate strategy to its burgeoning online music download plans, bolstered by its £7 million, 50 percent stake in download retailer 7Digital, now HMV’s sole download provider.

Hughes will report to HMV marketing director Graham Sim, whereas the download scheme is led by 7Digital CEO Ben Drury.
