2009 in Review: Top Entertainment Queries and Yahoo Viral Vids

With the calendar flipping over to December starting today, so begins the annual year-end wrap-up season. The time to reflect on what exactly happened during the last 11 months (i.e. holy crap, where did the year go?). Kicking us off are a couple of bits from tech titans Google (s GOOG) and Yahoo (s YHOO) recapping top queries and viral videos.

According to Google Zeitgeist, the top entertainment queries for 2009 were:

  1. Glee
  2. Bones
  3. Fringe
  4. NCIS
  5. Castle
  6. House
  7. Wipeout
  8. Medium
  9. Leverage
  10. Kings

  1. New Moon
  2. Transformers 2
  3. Bruno
  4. Avatar
  5. Star Trek
  6. Twilight
  7. G.I. Joe
  8. 2012
  9. Paranormal Activity
  10. Watchmen

Given how popular Glee is on Twitter, it’s not surprising that the high school musical was the most searched for show of the year. And what is there left to say about New Moon, other than that teenage girls are our new overlords?

A bit less scientific is Yahoo’s list of the Top 5 Viral Videos of 2009. They don’t define how they came up with the list, or even a straightforward ranking. Making Yahoo’s cut are:

Megawoosh (which Janko debunked)
JK Divorce Entrance (but strangely, not the original wedding entrance)
Roller Babies
Susan Boyle
Baby Dancing to Beyonce

Yahoo also broke down the Top 5 Strange and Amazing Videos of 2009, the Top 5 Funny Videos, the Top 5 Animal Videos, Top 5 Epic FAIL Videos, and the Top 10 Viral Videos of the Decade.

Stay tuned as we’ll be providing our own year-end NewTeeVee wrap-ups.

Weird list . . . Roller Babies? No T-Mobile dance or even Muppets’ “Bohemian Rhapsody” . . . not great.
