After The Buyout: Skype To Work With Silverlake Companies?

Skype is enjoying getting to know its new owners as a “truly independent” technology company after the sale by eBay, says product strategy strategy Michael Bartlett.

“eBay (NSDQ: EBAY) has been a great parent to us, but now we’re truly independent so now we can really focus on our core business (with) razor-sharp focus,” Bartlett told paidContent:UK during Monday’s inaugural Noah conference in London.

“Now, having people like Silverlake Partners, who have got great companies in their portfolio who have relevance to us as well.”

Looking at Silverlake’s stable, could integration with Mobile Messenger or wireless technology firm Avago be too far away?

Bartlett also said Marc Andreeson’s places on the boards of Facebook and Ning, plus the return of Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, make for “exciting times for us”. Skype CEO Josh Silverman was due to speak at the conference, but he was somewhat “preoccupied” with the post-merger details, Bartlett said.

Priorities for next year are business voice comms and improving video quality, he said…
