It’s an old cliche: Shopping is a social experience. On Black Friday this year, retailers and consumers gave it new meaning by leveraging the tools of social networking to help shoppers and each other scope out the best deals. Retailers blasted out tweets before dawn while shoppers posted their finds on Facebook and other platforms. Retailers reported an uptick in foot traffic over the weekend, but average spending per customer dropped.
