I am at Paley Center in midtown Manhattan, on day two of their international media conference. Among the speakers this morning included Jeff Zucker, CEO of NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), where he had nothing much to add about Comcast-NBCU talks. Also on the panel on future of news. Jon Klein, president of CNN U.S. got the short end of questions about how his network’s ratings and shows suck (my paraphrase). I am tweeting the event here. Some selected tweets:
— CNN’s Jon Klein: We make lots of money on news; our profits have doubled in the last few yrs. in fragmented env, big brands work.
— Prannoy Roy, NDTV India: 70 news channels is a bit much for any country; that’s us.
— Les Hinton, CEO, Dow Jones: 30K people have subscribed to WSJ on Kindle…for a primitive device that’s great.
— David Carr, media columnist for NYT: after watching first 5 mins of watching Al Jazeera Engish: hey, it is really good.
— Jeff Zucker: NBC Universal has nothing to do with NBC or Universal, we are mainly a cable channel network these days.
— Will NBC Universal change its name after Comcast (NSDQ: CMCSA) acquisition? Zucker’s bitching about the name a bit too much at #paley event.
— Boxee CEO Avner Ronen: We just launched our sponsored section with Sony (NYSE: SNE) Music yesterday.
— Boxee CEO Avner Ronen: in 2010, we will launch about 2-3 Boxee focused devices. We are working with one now.
— @peterrojas on his company beyond GDGT: planning to launch new verticals in which consumer experience can be socialized.
— @peterrojas: though we have ads on GDGT now, would like to remove all & ultimately be a place where companies & consumers can interact.
