Window Media Closes Down Southern Gay Publications

Southern Voice

Window Media, a newspaper and magazine publisher catering to the gay and lesbian community in the southeast, has been forced to shut down due to its pressing financial problems and has taken its publications with it, Creative Loafing reports (via Romenesko). The company’s majority shareholder, Avalon Equity Fund, which also owned Unite Media as well, was forced into liquidation proceedings earlier this year.

Specifically, the company, published Washington Blade, Southern Voice, Houston Voice, South Florida Blade, David Atlanta and The 411 Magazine. One editor at Atlanta’s Southern Voice told Creative Loafing that the shuttering was a surprise, as staffers were told that a sale was in the works.
