In what is seen as a fallout of ratings performance, Star India has made changes to the management of flagship general entertainment channel Star Plus (via Indiantelevision). The channel’s GM Keertan Adyanthaya will now handle the company’s english channels Star Movies and Star World, while the company’s COO Sanjay Gupta, who was hired in April from Airtel, will now directly handle Star Plus, a person familiar with the development said.
A Star India spokesperson declined to comment.
Gaurav Banerjee, VP and head, content, at Star’s Bengali channel Star Jolsha, will assist Gupta in the management of Star Plus, the person said.
After ending a decade-long domination of Star Plus in the GEC category, Viacom18’s Colors has now gained a significant lead over Star Plus and Zee, both of which enjoy about 17% marketshare each. For the week ended 31 October, Colors had a marketshare of 24% with 340 GRPs (gross ratng points), while Star Plus clocked 243 GRPs and Zee, 234. Among the 10 highest rated shows during the week under review, Colors had five shows, while Zee had three and Star Plus, two.
