OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, a joint venture between the media personality and Discovery Communications (NSDQ: DISCA), is putting some finishing touches on its executive level staff. Former Comcast (NSDQ: CMCSA) exec Allan Singer is the latest hire. He has been named EVP of Distribution and Strategy for OWN, which makes its debut next year. Singer will report to Christina Norman, OWN’s CEO. He’ll work alongside Robert Tercek, who was brought on as OWN’s president of Digital Media a year ago.
OWN has had a number of personnel moves lately, including the addition of Kathy Kayse, who earlier this month moved over from her post as Discovery’s EVP of digital media sales.
The Oprah network has also hired Jamila Hunter, who a former NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) exec at Bravo who was tapped as programming head this summer. Meanwhile, after only a few months on the job at OWN, Robin Schwartz exited last spring as president of TV. That post has been eliminated entirely, the company said previously.
In his new role, Singer, who joined Comcast in 2003 and leaves as SVP of Content Acquisitions, will manage the content distribution and sales strategy for OWN. A rep told paidContent that Singer will also oversee cable affiliates’ content. He’ll be based in Los Angeles and begins the job on November 2.
