New Premium Net Epix Launching This Weekend, With Verizon FiOS

Epix

Hallelujah. Epix is finally launching on Oct 30. The premium movie channel, which is a JV between Paramount Pictures, MGM and and Lions Gate, will be available to Verizon’s FiOS TV subscribers, as was previously announced, and will start this weekend. Some details announced today:
— EPIX will be available standard and HD, and on VOD. In addition, about 150 movies will be available every month for EPIX subscribers online at epixhd.com. One small wrinkle: customers must subscribe to both FiOS TV and FiOS Internet.
— Free of charge to subs from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1, and then $9.99 per month. Pricey in this environment, and considering the choices available both on TV and online.

For comparison sake, from Contentinople: “That compares favorably to Verizon’s other premium programming packages. The company charges $15.99 for HBO and $11.99 for Cinemax, and it has a “movie package,” which includes channels like Starz, The Movie Channel, and Showtime, for $14.99 per month. All of those packages include VoD channels, but Epix is the first to link its linear programming channel to an online, on-demand component.” More details in release.
