Here are some of today’s phone conversations I enjoyed reading or viewing on the web, along with some brief thoughts:
More spending on smartphones than notebooks in 2012 (CNET) — This linked article is actually focused on a survey of smartphone owners to determine market share. In it, Research in Motion holds the lead, but Apple is gaining fast while Palm is finally maintaining its presence. But more interesting than all of that — we pretty much knew about the market share numbers — is a Gartner prediction. In 2012, the research firm forecasts that more money will be spent on smartphone purchases than on laptops.
Docs To Go for BlackBerry Syncs to Desktop (DataViz) — Version 2.0 DataViz’s Premium productivity suite for BlackBerry hit today. It adds desktop file synchronization with a PC, support for password protected files and enhancements to the PDF app.
Nokia N97 firmware update assessed (tehkseven) — Nokia’s N97 might be playing second fiddle to all of the N900 buzz, but the smartphone isn’t getting totally abandoned. Firmware v.2 recently hit the airwaves with louder speaker volume, better touchscreen scrolling, improved memory management and more. There’s a few bugs in the mix, but no show-stoppers that I can see. Looks like a worthy update.
