It is official the Windows 7 launch day, in case you were wondering why you’re seeing Windows 7 news all over the web. We’re doing our part in scouring out the little-known facts about the new version of Windows. One thing I’ve not seen anywhere that is a pretty shrewd move on the part of Microsoft is the release of sponsored themes for Windows 7. Companies are apparently paying Microsoft to host themes that pimp their products, and the themes are available for free download by Windows 7 users.

This is a clever idea that makes you wonder what took so long to appear. There are already quite a few of the themes available for download, and since they are free to the end user, you can bet there will be a lot of them grabbed by users. You have to wonder how much Microsoft is charging companies to submit a theme to the gallery. These companies should realize that just because users download the themes, it doesn’t mean they actually use it on their desktop. Or is that being recorded somewhere?
