Today in Cloud

I wrote a post for GigaOM this morning in which I discuss a new survey finding a very high SaaS adoption rate and 90 percent satisfaction with SaaS deployments. These numbers seem to conflict with advice from Gartner analyst Rob DeSisto, who suggests that poor practices can render SaaS no more cost-effective, and more operationally problematic, than in-house software. So, are SaaS users just grinning idiots, clueless of all of the problems they might be facing? I think not: survey respondents also preferred internally delivered SaaS by a 4:1 ratio, indicating they are leveraging “true” SaaS until they can implement internal clouds and get the best of both worlds.
