Here are some of today’s phone conversations I enjoyed reading or viewing on the web, along with some brief thoughts:
Sidekick data back from the dead (Microsoft) — It took nearly five days, but Microsoft found a way to recover the Sidekick data that disappeared over the weekend. The official statement claims a system failure that took out both the original data and the backup, which sounds odd to me — if the backup was compromised, where is the restored data coming from? In any case, it’s positive news for many Sidekickers, although the official timeline for restoration is still in the works.
iPhone saves woman from bear attach (Register) — On a day that will be remembered for “balloon-gate,” it’s only fitting to have a wacky but true story like this. Makes me think that carrying two phones is a good idea after all — one to use and one throw so I don’t get mauled.
Add useful info to your Android lock screen (FlyScreen) — Want informational widgets right on the lock screen of your Android handset? FlyScreen looks like it fits the bill, although I wouldn’t add any personal data to it. That sort of defeats the purpose of the lock screen, no? But for social networking bits, RSS feeds, weather and more, this sounds like a useful idea. Your device is still locked with FlyScreen, but it’s useful at the same time.
