Wikia, the for-profit wiki company led by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, has made a small purchase: It has picked up Lyric Wiki, a wiki site that features nearly one million user-uploaded song lyrics. Wikia says it has also reached a licensing deal with Sony (NYSE: SNE) subsidiary Gracenote so that royalties will be paid to music publishers. Wikia says the purchase is part of the company’s expansion into music content; the company already hosts a number of other music-related wikis. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wikia has raised more than $14 million in funding, including a $10 million investment from Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) in late 2006. Release.
