KidZui Aims For Kids, Parents With iPhone Video App

Kid-friendly web browser KidZui is going mobile with the launch of the ZuiTube iPhone app. The free app aggregates over 60,000 videos — from TV shows and movie clips, to music videos — that parents and teachers have approved as “safe” for kids to watch. This follows the August launch of ZuiTube.com, the company’s kid-safe video portal.

Geared toward kids aged 3-12, the ZuiTube app lets them search through and tag clips with descriptions like “LOL,” “cute,” and “crazy.” The company is hoping it will serve to funnel kids (and their parents) to its subscription-based browser service.

Recent stats from Nielsen Mobile show that nearly 50 percent of kids between the ages of 8-12 have their own mobile phone in the U.S.; with some 20 percent borrowing phones from their parents or siblings. Currently, there’s no real way to gauge which App Store apps and games are “kid-safe” at-a-glance.
