Samsung releases Android Moment: The big surprise of the show for gadgets was the release of the Moment by Samsung. Running the Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Android operating system, it will be the second such device to be sold by Sprint (NYSE: S). The Moment is powered by an 800 MHz processor, making it one of the fastest wireless phones available today. The device will go on sale Nov. 1 for $179.99 after rebates and a two-year contract. Pre-registration for this phone began yesterday at www.sprint.com/moment.

CTIA releases wireless statistics: CTIA has released its semi-annual industry survey, finding that data service revenues totaled $19.4 billion in the first half of 2009, climbing 31 percent over the first half of 2008. Wireless data revenues made up more than 25 percent of overall revenues. The survey also found that more than 246 million data-capable devices are owned by U.S. consumers and that more than 40 million are official smartphones. More than 10 million are laptops, notebooks or aircards. More here.
