– Virgin Media: Virgin is experimenting with expanding beyond its fibreoptic cable network by delivering broadband and VOD TV via copper wire DSL networks. This winter the company will begin a trial with Vtesse Networks in a small part of Cornwall where residents will be offered free 50Mbps broadband — though, in reality, it’s a fibre-to-cabinet scheme where copper wire is linked to newly laid fibre. — BBC Realplayer: After 13 years, the BBC Radio has finally ditched Realplayer as an audio and video streaming platform altogether, in favour of Flash and Windows Media Player. BBC News switched from Real to Flash last March for online video. From the Radio 4 blog.
— STV HD video Scottish broadcaster STV has added HD video content via a deal with Brightcove. A three-part documentary series Scotland Revealed is available now. STV Player made STV programmes available 30 days after broadcast in July.
