The Party Line — Phone Buzz of the Day

Here are some of today’s phone conversations I enjoyed reading or viewing on the web, along with some brief thoughts:

android-logo1Dude, AT&T is getting Android! (CNET) — I’ve been wondering if and when AT&T would be joining the Android Army. Word is that the enlistment starts next year and is coming from Dell. The phone market is growing too big, too fast for a computer-maker like Dell to ignore the potential profits. And it’s not like Dell has no experience in the handheld market — one of my fave PDAs was my Axim X51. It’s probably around here somewhere. I wonder if I can cram Android on it?

Palm’s Pre has limited app storage (PreCentral) — I’ve received a few emails asking me if my Pre is refusing to install new apps. Many owners are reporting a “Sorry, Not Enough Memory” message even though there’s plenty of free space. Turns out that webOS limits app installs to a 253MB partition. There’s a few workarounds available, but Palm needs to address this in an update.

slacker-androidSlacker support expanding to more handsets (IntoMobile) — Windows Mobile and Android phones will soon enjoy Slacker’s music service, but it’s U.S. support only. Also in the mix will be Twitter integration for tweeting tune titles — I’ll pass on that since I listen to classical, new age and country, which would likely confuse people. I’m curious to see if music can be cached like it can be on the BlackBerry client. You’re not able to do that on the iPhone, but I’d hope that the feature is enabled for WinMo and Android. Our peeps at Slacker say there’s no timeline yet for the app launches, but they are showing off some demos at CTIA now.
