Samsung Moment for Sprint — A QWERTY Android with Optical Joystick

Samsung Momentâ„¢ PhoneSo is everyone scrambling to get more Android devices simply because analysts expect it to be the number two smartphone platform by 2012? Whatever the reason, it’s good to see more choices and there’s another one with Google for Sprint customers. The Samsung Moment is poised for a November 1 launch date with a $179.99 price tag after rebates and two-year contract.

This li’l fella sports a 320×480, 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display like its close cousin — T-Mobile’s Behold II, also from Samsung. But it gains a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for those that need tactile, hardware buttons. Inside, Sprint says there’s an 800MHz CPU, making it “one of the fastest wireless phones available today.” Also included is a 3.2-megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth support, 3.5mm headphone jack, visual voicemail and support for a whopping 32GB of external memory. Of course, there’s EVDO Rev A. tucked in as well an 802.11b/g radio. And all of the Sprint extras are there too: NFL Mobile Live, NASCAR Sprint Cup Live and Sprint Navigation. Did you notice the optical touchpad on the bottom? I think I’d like that over a trackball or D-pad.
