Erik Huggers’ offer for counterparts to share the BBC’s iPlayer is still on the table…

I caught up with Errol Barran, C4’s head of future and digital media, at Wednesday’s Association of Online Publishers summit. He says a tie-up is possible: “With regard to accessing or embedding C4’s player in other places, it’s a possibility, it needs to be explored. These are all challenging questions for us. We have to be very aware that change is coming, we can’t be afraid of it at all.”

“You have remove yourself from the concept of expecting people only coming to you, C4 have been excellent in providing a platform which is time-shifted and on-demand… We’ve ticked that box very but the next part of our growth strategy is about reaching people consuming content outside of C4.”

But which sites are being targeted? At the moment it’s the “larger brand” video-sharing sites, because they offer audience scope. But, “longer term perhaps we may speak to more niche and smaller titles in the marketplace”, he continued.
