The Party Line — Phone Buzz of the Day

Here are some of today’s phone conversations I enjoyed reading or viewing on the web, along with some brief thoughts:

htc-heroGet an early HTC Hero at Best Buy (Android Guys) — Word on the street — well, Twitter really — is that Best Buy Reward Zone members can get an HTC Hero two days early. The out-of-pocket cost is $179.99 because Best Buy gives the rebate price. It might be worth checking with your local Best Buy this week to verify this, but if true, you won’t have wait until the 11th. Instead, you’ll be saved by your Hero on the 9th, with a whole weekend to gain a “sense” of Sprint’s latest Android handset.

Palm Pre App Catalog out of beta (PreCentral) — Nearly 30 apps found their way into the App Catalog for Palm’s Pre. Before you get too excited, some of them will cost you. Oh wait, that IS reason for celebration! It means that the App Catalog is open for business with even more apps!

Blackberry_mIQBest Buy Mobile will backup your phone (Best Buy) — Speaking of Best Buy, they’re rolling out a backup service for mobiles on October 12. The service will store and sync contacts, text messages, calendar events, calls, photos, videos, and Internet favorites to a private web-based mIQ account. The free service will come standard with smartphone purchases, but anyone can sign up for a 1GB account. You’ll want to verify if your phone is supported first, of course.
