Bluefin Lab, a stealth video search startup, has raised an undisclosed round of funding from Kepha Partners, in addition to a $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation. The company is so hush-hush that when the Boston Globe started asking questions about the company, it took down its website, the paper reports (For the record, a cached version of the site shows that there wasn’t much there, except for three job listings). The Globe pulls details about Bluefin Labs’ plans from its grant application. The startup will use “speech, text, and video” from a clip to index it. A possible use is in sports, where the technology could potentially be used to find a specific action — like a fly ball — within a video.
