Microsoft Brings HealthVault To MSN

MyHealthInfo

Since the launch of its HealthVault consumer health platform two years ago, Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) has mostly been pushing the service by partnering with major health systems across the country. But the company is now pitching HealthVault directly to consumers via its MSN portal. A new MSN site — My Health Info — lets users upload and then monitor their health information from HealthVault and also read up on medical issues. The site is directly accessible via a prominent link on the MSN Health and Fitness sub-page.

LiveSide.net talked with MSN Director Lisa Gurry, who said that the Health and Fitness page brings in 85 million page views a month — so it should help expand HealthVault’s reach. It’s unclear how HealthVault is doing since Microsoft has never said how many people have signed up for accounts, only repeating that it’s a “long-term endeavor.”

One sidenote: The addition of My Health Info to Health and Fitness comes as Microsoft has said that it will focus MSN’s content offerings on five major areas — news, entertainment, sports, finance, and lifestyle — as part of an overhaul set for this fall. So, it will be interesting to watch how the bulking up of the Health and Fitness page fits with that strategy.

More in the release.
