The Women’s Information Network Gets Funding, New Leadership — But Can It Gain Traction?

The WIN screengrab

Here’s another online network for women trying to compete with the likes of the iVillages and *Yahoo* Shines: The Women’s Information Network, or the WIN. The company promises to offer women “bite-sized” editorial, audio and video content, as well as social networking tools. How they’ll grow an audience — currently, traffic is at just over 2,700 unique monthly visits, per Compete — even as bigger sites like NBCU’s iVillage are struggling to sustain theirs, remains to be seen. But the company has just raised its first round of funding from private investors, and brought in a new president and COO to get the momentum going.

Currently, the site’s slots for video shows are mostly empty; the company says it will use the new funding to help build out that content. Dan Samuels has joined as president; he has experience as CEO of a number of companies, including investment consultancy D-Arthur Ventures and Empresa Venture Group. David Wright is the WIN’s new COO; he’ll oversee sales and marketing. Based in Salt Lake City, the WIN was founded this year former eFamily.com VP and radio host Dr. Paula Fellingham. Release.
