Fishlabs, a German mobile game developer, has ported its popular Galaxy on Fire game to the Zeebo, the Qualcomm-backed console designed to offer low-cost gaming to players in emerging markets like Brazil and India. Fishlabs’ games have been quite successful — particularly its iPhone version of Galaxy on Fire — but PocketGamer reports that it’s the first time one of its titles has made it to a console. It raises the question of whether the Zeebo could grow into an alternative revenue stream for other mobile gaming companies as well.
While the Zeebo’s WiFi connection and lack of discs keep production costs low, the need to store data on the hard drive means most of the games that will be available (at least from the onset), need to take up less memory and be less-graphic intensive than titles for consoles like the Xbox 360 or PS3. That’s an ideal market for some of the high-end mobile games, which developers like Fishlabs can quickly customize for TV viewing. For Galaxy on Fire for example, Fishlabs added a larger display and navigational interface, as well as sound and music upgrades.
