BlackBerry Buzz — Weekly Foray Into the Brambles

blackberry-buzzIt’s Tuesday and that can only mean it’s time for our new weekly feature, BlackBerry Buzz. The Buzz is where you’ll find out what’s been going on in the BlackBerry brambles. You’ll hear about everything that’s worth knowing in the awesome world of the BlackBerry.

No question Twitter is the giant of social networking, and having a good mobile client is every smartphone’s dream. It is reported that RIM (s rimm) is working on a native Twitter app for the BlackBerry, and it will be integrated into the OS:

“It will feature core BlackBerry application integration, and be tied in to the address book, browser and device setup wizard. You can expect the user interface to be along the same lines as other RIM-built social networking apps and offer a similar experience. As for features, it’ll have everything you’d expect a twitter app these days to have, including trending topics.”

There are a few Twitter apps already out there, so RIM better make sure they produce a darn good one. One thing is certain — getting users to drop their favorite Twitter app is no easy task.

RIM is rumored to be working on a phone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. Codenamed “Mr. T”, the slider may be based on the Storm form, but with a keyboard that slides out of the bottom. BlackBerries are famous for their keyboards and a sliding model would be interesting, indeed.

RIM’s stock took a beating after a gloomy forecast was given recently. The stock dropped 17 percent over concerns that third quarter expectations will not be met. The company forecast revenue of $3.50 billion – $3.85 billion, while analysts were expecting $3.92 billion.  Even with the outlook not quite as rosy as expected, some analysts are viewing the drop in stock price as a buying opportunity.
