MySpace Music CTO Aber Whitcomb, who was part of the social network’s founding team — and was responsible for making the rapid, crazy-quilt growth work, is leaving “to pursue other opportunities.” Instead of going outside the company, MySpace Music CTO Alex Maghen (pictured) will succeed Whitcomb and report to COO Mike Jones. His responsibilities include managing the technology behind the MySpace platform, the core platform development and data hosting infrastructure. Unlike Whitcomb, as the former CTO of Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) Entertainment and MTV Networtks, Maghen has a strong background in the technology behind consumer-directed entertainment platform — which should come in handy as MySpace continues to revamp with that in mind. Jones has a PR-sounding blog post about the change.
