If you can’t consolidate, interoperate! Smart grid consolidation was in the news this week with Silver Spring’s move to buy Greenbox. But today, the company made partnerships fashionable by announcing an interoperability agreement with Siemens. Trilliant and ABB made similar waves earlier. What’s the benefit here? In both cases, smart grid networking firms (Silver Spring and Trilliant) and grid subsystems providers (Siemens and ABB) are saying that they speak the same language, easing technical integration concerns and, they hope, raising their respective profiles when utilities line up vendors.
