Rumors that Namco Bandai planned to hand its European mobile games business over to Electronic Arts (NSDQ: ERTS) swirled yesterday — and now the two companies have confirmed it. EA Mobile will be the new publishing and distribution partner for Namco Bandai Networks Europe (NBNE), gaining the rights to publish and distribute all of NBNE’s existing and upcoming mobile games across Europe, as well as Latin America and Australia.
In a statement, NBNE President Barry O’Neill said the deal would let the company focus on developing new games, as opposed to figuring out how to best monetize them. But Namco made it clear that the deal didn’t include its North American mobile games business, or its new iPhone unit; the company also said it would continue to sell, and keep all revenue, from mobile games purchased directly through its own online store. Release.
