Jobs Could Be On The Line As Namco Starts Restructuring Its Euro Mobile Business

After doubling the headcount of its European games division last November, a tough market this year has Namco Bandai eying layoffs — and potentially even outsourcing management and distribution of its mobile games business in Europe.

In a statement meant to quell rumors about large scale job losses, Namco told ME that “minimal” layoffs were possible as part of a reorg because the plan could include turning over the management of its mobile business to a distribution partner.

ME’s sources cite EA Mobile as an option; Namco wouldn’t give specifics, but said it would issue an official statement about the changes in the coming weeks. In contrast, Namco recently brought in *Apple* vet Jon Kromrey to run its newly staffed iPhone games division here in the U.S. — and even talked up potential acquisitions of smaller iPhone game developers.
