The government’s app store, Apps. gov, officially launched today with a long list of business, productivity and social media applications available via the cloud. It appears a bit trickier than your standard consumer app store, but that is to be expected given the bureaucracy that is the federal government. I am a little disappointed to see that the infrastructure services are not yet available, but not surprised. Delivering storage or computing as services is a little trickier a task than simply offering a SaaS procurement model for apps. Details are sparse right now, but we should see more emerge as this initiative is subjected to large-scale scrutiny. At any rate, it is great to see the government be so proactive on cloud computing.
