Google’s next Android update will provide a number of new features, including the already announced new app Market and a universal search bar, which lets users search the contents of the phone, like call contacts and applications, from the home screen. Google (NSDQ: GOOG) said in a blog post today that the update is now available via a developer’s kit, but won’t be available on devices until October at the earliest.
In addition to the updates above, 1.6 will also have a number of technical changes, including support for CDMA phones, more screen resolutions to support lower-end devices and new APIs, such as a gestures framework and a text-to-speech engine, which will allow Android applications to speak.
