Today in Cloud

Last week, I spoke with Stephen Elliot, vice president of strategy for CA’s Infrastructure Management and Data Center Automation business unit, who explained CA’s place in the virtual data center as a step beyond VMware. Essentially, while VMware does some great things regarding automation of tasks within the virtualization layer, CA handles much more — including network management and application performance — and manages both virtual and physical infrastructure. In fact, he said, VMware is a good way to get comfortable with certain concepts of automation. NetQoS is just one more piece in CA’s network management portfolio, and CA thinks it will prove a nice fit with the Cassatt technology CA bought in the spring.
