Last week I visited Flushing Meadows and the National Tennis Center, for a behind-the-scenes tour of USOpen.org, and of course to watch a match as well. Thursday was a relatively bad day to visit, as dark clouds started hovering over the area, literally. But at least it was better than Friday/Sat, which were washed out days at the tournament. (CBSSports.com and USOpen.org will stream Monday’s rain-delayed final between Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro live at 4 p.m. edt.) Phil Green, the digital head of USTA and his team laid out the spread for us, taking us around the magnificent grounds, stadiums, players area, their digital den for USopen.org and the roof of Arthur Ashe stadium, which provided magnificent views of Manhattan skyline. Our celeb sightings included Melanie Oudin, Martina Navratilova, Pam Shriver, Brad Gilbert, and a few others. We’ve written about some big numbers for the USopen.org site and the live streaming this year. A behind-the-scenes tour of the digital digs, via our picture gallery.
