Ranveer Chandra, Researcher in the Networking Research Group at Microsoft Research
Influence: Chandra is one of several engineers working to take advantage of the white spaces between the channels used for digital television to deliver broadband. The FCC approved the use of that spectrum for unlicensed broadband last year, but creating a device and network that fits within the FCC guidelines will be a challenge. Chandra earlier this year said he had helped solve one of those challenges, however. As part of his doctoral dissertation, he developed VirtualWiFi, a virtualization architecture for wireless network cards. His research at Microsoft focuses on four different projects: white space networking, energy-conserving PC architecture, mobile systems and network management — all of which could help improve our access to the web on the go.
