Dick Lynch, Chief Technology Officer and EVP, Verizon Communications
Influence: Lynch, who held the title of executive vice president and chief technical officer for Verizon Wireless from when that company was founded in 2000 until 2007, is now head of all networks at the carrier and is one of the biggest proponents of the Long Term Evolution fourth-generation wireless standard. He’s been selling the company’s expedited rollout of LTE to investors and customers by projecting (accurately, we think) the huge demand for wireless data services. Verizon may not have the iPhone to jumpstart consumer demand, but it does have the guts to invest in a rapid rollout of 4G technology and lay fiber to the necessary base stations in support — and anticipation — of the growing demand for mobile broadband.
