NDTV has named Shivnath Thukral as business editor and advisor, strategy, at a group level. Thukral was managing editor of NDTV Profit, the group’s business news channel. No replacement has been named at NDTV Profit. He confirmed the development.
“We are very happy to announce that Shivnath Thukral, one of our finest journalists, is to have a redefined role at NDTV. Shivi has managed NDTV Profit successfully since July 2007 as Managing Editor. We would now like Shivi to take on a new role that will enable him to be more involved with the journalism aspects of business and not with managing newsrooms,” promoters Prannoy and Radhika Roy wrote in an internal memo.
“…Radhika and I have asked Shivi to spare some of his time to work closely with the two of us on NDTV’s strategies for new projects etc…
“His new designation will be Business Editor and Adviser Strategy (NDTV) … This means he will be a full-fledged journalist – available for all NDTV’s channels where he will also do special shows. His major shows like Big Business Battles and other interview shows will, of course, continue on NDTV Profit. He will also soon be launching his own interview based show on NDTV Profit.”
Thukral is a career NDTV journo, having joined the company in 1995 as a reporter armed with a masters degree in economics from the Delhi School of Economics. The Capital’s journalism circles have been abuzz for a while with speculation that Thukral was leaving NDTV after the channel introduced long standing NDTV consultant John O’Loan as a full-time business head for the channel.
