Track Money Habits by Location With TIE Your Money on Android

tie-your-money-androidOn a daily basis, I use Mint with my Apple iPhone 3GS to review and manage my financial transactions. Mint securely pulls the data directly from my financial institutions, so there’s practically no data entry involved. Unfortunately, Mint doesn’t yet offer a client for other handset platforms. However, at least one personal finance title for Android devices offers something Mint doesn’t — tagging transactions by the actual location of where money was swapped.

TIE Your Money for Android does just that in its latest release. The software now adds location tagging through a partnership with Skyhook Wireless, using its WPS, or Wi-Fi Positioning System. While I review my transactions in great detail, it would be useful for me to see where I’m spending my money, not just when and for what. I imagine there would be some pretty interesting trends shown that tell me I generally spend money when I pass or travel through certain locations. Of course, I don’t need such a feature to tell me that I drop a few bucks whenever I pass a WaWa store — my car automatically pulls in whenever it senses one, so I can get a coffee refill. ;)

TIE Your Money is available for free in the Android Market. Aside from the new location tagging for transactions, it supports speech recognition, data queries for export or SMS, and custom alarm reminders for bills.
