BlackBerry Desktop Manager Version Leaked — Adds Tethering Control

dm5018smThe Blackberry Desktop Manager (BDM) is the window into your BlackBerry from your PC. It is the software that makes setting up and updating the smartphone a simple affair. Unofficial versions of the BDM are always leaking to the web, and folks like trying out the new versions before their phone carriers officially release them. That’s how version 5.0.1.16 got out into the wild, and folks who have tried it out tell us there is a new control for tethering the phone to the laptop to use as a modem.

The IP Modem section is for configuring the BlackBerry to use as a modem for the laptop for those times when Wi-Fi is not around. You will have to be mindful of your carrier’s policy about tethering if you use this, but it’s nice to see RIM acknowledge that customers want to do this.
